Which version do I have, and how do I update?
Open GlassDrive's Settings › General: it shows your version number (1, 2, 3…) and has a Check for updates button. GlassDrive also tells you with a banner when a new version is out. To update, download the new version, open it and drag GlassDrive into Applications, choosing Replace; your settings and files stay as they are. Every version is listed on our releases page. When you send feedback, please say which version you're on.
How do I get a year of Ultimate free?
Be a beta tester: use GlassDrive, and send us useful feedback during the beta, either a bug with the steps to make it happen or a specific idea to improve it. Use “Send feedback” in the app's sidebar or email henrysarosi9@gmail.com from the address you signed in with. When paid plans start, you get 12 months of Ultimate free. Tester reward terms.
What does “beta” mean?
GlassDrive is finished enough to use every day, but we're still testing it with real people before the full launch. During the beta every feature is free, Ultimate included, and there's no card or trial clock. You might find the odd bug: please tell us with “Send feedback” in the app's sidebar. The prices on our pricing page start only after the beta, and we'll email you well before then. As always, keep your own backups.
Does GlassDrive replace Finder?
It replaces how you browse, not Finder itself. macOS always needs Finder running for the desktop, so GlassDrive works alongside it on the same files. You can even make GlassDrive open whenever you open a folder, and switch back to Finder with one click.
Can I go back to how things were?
Yes. GlassDrive never moves your files into its own format. Every change can be reverted from Activity & Revert, deleted items go to the Trash, and if you stop using GlassDrive, Finder shows everything exactly where it was.
Why does it ask for Full Disk Access?
Without it, macOS asks separately for your Desktop, Documents, Downloads, iCloud Drive and every external drive. One switch in System Settings covers them all, so you're not interrupted again. You can turn it off any time.
How do Confidential folders work?
Each one is an encrypted disk image protected by your password: AES-256, the same technology as Apple's Disk Utility. GlassDrive never stores the password. Without it the files can't be opened, not even by us. You can also open them from Finder by double-clicking and typing the password.
Will the Storage Offloader delete my files?
Only when you tell it to, or if you switch on automatic mode. Offloaded files go to the Trash, so you can put them back until you empty it. Starred and protected files are never touched.
Why does macOS say GlassDrive isn't from a trusted developer?
Apple charges developers £79 a year for its seal of approval. To keep GlassDrive as cheap as possible we've spent that money on the app instead, for now. It's the same app either way. Here's how to open it (it takes about 20 seconds, once).
Why can't I just use Apple's Finder and iCloud?
You can! They're free. Our cheeky theory is that the harder it is to see what's filling your Mac, the sooner you'll buy more iCloud storage or a new drive. GlassDrive puts your comfort first and helps you clear space instead. Read more.
Do I need an account?
Yes, a free one. It keeps your trial, your locked-in price and your referral rewards safe. You sign in with a code we email you. No password, and no card for the trial.
Is the free trial really 14 days?
Yes, as long as you answer one question. You get 7 days when you create your account and 7 more when you tell us how you found GlassDrive. Any answer counts.
What's the difference between Pro and Ultimate?
Ultimate is everything in Pro plus custom backgrounds: any photo behind the glass, scaled however you like. It adds a little more customisation, and an extra high five. Compare plans.
What's the lifetime plan policy?
From the day you subscribe, your price will never go up. It only drops with loyalty, as long as your subscription doesn't lapse. Details.
How does the referral programme work?
Share your code from the app. Your friend picks “A friend told me” and enters it. When they subscribe, you get a free month, and it stacks. Referral terms.
Which Macs are supported?
Macs running macOS 14 Sonoma or later. On macOS Tahoe and later, GlassDrive uses Apple's Liquid Glass.
Do you offer refunds?
Yes. Email us within 14 days of a payment and we'll refund it.
